ESD was formed in 1989 with a mission "to disseminate energy
services and technologies that provide a positive benefit for future
generations". Our headquarters is in the converted outbuildings
of a 16th century farm about 9 miles east of the UK city of Bath.
We believe that this altruistic ambition will be best achieved
through businesses working in partnership with public bodies. There
need be no conflict between a business needing to make a profit
and a more sustainable society; indeed many aspects of sustainable
energy use can provide businesses and public bodies with significant
cost savings. ESD is a private limited company and we have our own
targets for creating financial value for our shareholders and partners,
together with targets for environmental and social development.
ESD has a policy of paying competitive commercial wages, and our
ethos encompasses shared decision making, flexible working hours,
an informal working environment, and the positive involvement of
employees through shareholding. The overall objectives of ESD's
management style, working practices and office environment are to
create a satisfying and rewarding position for all staff, whilst
at the same time maintaining a high degree of professionalism and
quality. Staff are consulted on major decisions, and salary awards
recognise efforts made, risks taken, experience and value to the
company. Staff are recognised for their efforts in materials published,
and personal aspirations, skills and experience are taken into account
when allocating project work, business development duties and in
setting roles and responsibilities.
