CAMCO International
CAMCO International is a joint venture established by ESD and KWI: a leading Austrian energy consultancy company. Camco is dedicated to transforming greenhouse gas emission reductions generated by eligible projects into tradable "carbon assets”. A first-mover in the rapidly emerging sector of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions trading, CAMCO works with both generators and purchasers of GHG emission reductions, helping partners to optimise their position in these markets by sourcing, developing and managing such "carbon assets" on their behalf. For some partners this means increasing revenues, while for others it means reducing liabilities associated with their own activities. Visit the CAMCO International site.

Bulgarian Renewable Energy Company
BREC has been set up as a joint venture between ESD Ventures and European Energy Investments Limited. Both ESDV and EEI have recognised the potential for developing profitable renewable energy projects in Bulgaria and the Balkan region, and have set up BREC as a vehicle to develop, finance and implement renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in that region. Bulgaria is a new entrant to the European Union, with considerable potential for renewable energy development, including biomass, hydro, wind and solar. Through ESD’s local office in Sofia, BREC has access to skilled Bulgarian engineers and project developers which are used to support BREC’s activities.

BREC’s current focus is on aggregating small hydro projects into investment “packages” of around 10MW or more. BREC has also identified potential sites for wind turbine installation, and is taking a similar approach to developing investment proposals for wind clusters of up to 10MW capacity. Electricity generated from hydro and wind energy receives a price premium under Bulgarian law, in the form of an agreed “feed-in” tariff, which enable such projects to achieve attractive rates of return. The establishment of BREC aligns with ESD Ventures’ strategy of working where ESD has a presence, allowing ESDV to tap into local knowledge, track record, contacts and resources.
